More than 50 trucks carrying 4,800 metric tons of World Food Programme (WFP) food and nutrition aid enough for 500,000 people are stranded across Sudan due to flooded, impassable roads.
The rainy season has worsened Sudan’s crisis, displacing 27,000 people, killing at least 50, and affecting 143,000 across 12 states.
Floods have destroyed key bridges, blocking aid convoys, including those at the Chad border, where trucks have been stuck for weeks.
The risk of waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid is high, especially among malnourished children and mothers.
As fighting intensifies and disrupts aid routes, WFP have called for a humanitarian ceasefire and the reopening of all border crossings to deliver critical assistance amid ongoing peace talks in Switzerland.
