Senior Presidential Advisor to President Akufo Addo, Yaw Osafo Marfo says Eastern Region is the pillar of Ghana and that it has remained useful to a country far back during the fight for independence.
According to the former Member of Parliament for Akyem Oda and a Finance Minister, when chiefs such as Nana Ofori Atta were fighting for independence for Ghana, Ashantis were not part there the Eastern region is a strategic area for Ghana’s democracy.

“When we talk about Region in Ghana that is Eastern Region. During the Colonia period in the education sector, every experiment of national policy was done in the Eastern region, and if it became successful before it is implemented nationwide. Health system if you pilot in Eastern Region and it is successful before it can be implemented nationally if it fails, then you starts all over. It is a heterogeneous region”.
Osafo Marfo continued that “in terms of chieftaincy history, Nana Ofori Atta, these were the chiefs that fought for independence. At that time Ashantis were not part of it. Greater Accra was part of the Eastern region. so Eastern region is the region that fought for our independence”.
Osafo Marfo made these references to woe support for Kwadwo Agyemang Boateng who was defeated by Jeff Konadu in his bid to become Eastern Regional Chairman.
