A demonstration against the use of the Winneba community’s ramsar site for an alleged mining purposes by the government turned bloody on Tuesday after majority of the protesters clashed with police over unapproved routes.
The Parliamentary Candidate for the NDC in the Effutu Constituency, James Kofi Annan, who was leading the aggrieved youth failed to control the crowd looked unconcern as they stoned the police dispatched to protect the demonstrators injuring three (3) officers in the act.
The demonstrators, according to information threatened to overpower the police to appear before the forecourt of the Effutu Municipal Assembly Block where a petition was to be presented after the police had directed them to rather do the presentation at Klimovic junction.
Officers who fell victims have since been admitted at the Municipal government hospital receiving treatment while about 10 protesters have also been arrested.
Meanwhile, Effutu lawmaker Alexander Afenyo-Markin has denied the accusation, saying the site has not been leased for such purpose.
