A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has expressed his displeasure with the decision taken by former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen, to leave the party and going independent in the 2024 elections.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe voiced his opinion that Kyerematen’s prospects of winning the 2024 elections as an independent candidate are small and that the timing of his departure was improper in an interview with Citi FM that aired on Eyewitness News.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said that Kyerematen’s protracted service in the Akufo-Addo administration would interfere with his hopes of running for president as an independent.
This is due to the possibility that he may be seen as involved in the alleged misbehavior among the government’s appointees.
“Winning an election as an independent candidate will be a huge problem for Alan because all the appeals that he has made particularly to the youth will not wash, and the reason is quite simple. He has been with the Akufo-Addo’s government for almost seven years and the time that Alan should have left that government, he didn’t.
“Alan should have left the government particularly when he realised the rot going on in the party and that would have automatically turned him into a leader in the future, but he didn’t do that.”
Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe also questioned the NPP’s leadership and the present state of things inside the party. In his view, the party has strayed from its original ideals, enabling a number of harmful elements to thrive.
He cited problems inside the party, including selfishness, incompetence, tribalism, hubris, and avarice.
“If we were running our party like it is done in the USA or Britain, these things would not have happened. Our party is full of selfishness, incompetence, tribalism, arrogance, and greed and that is what has brought us here today. Our part was not like this years back or else I would not have been part of it” he stated.
