President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Carbonu has asked the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to withdraw the statement they issued on October 11, 2021, concerning Ghana card registration.
The Controller and Accountant General’s Department issued a public statement to inform government workers that, from the 1st of December, any worker without the Ghana card will not be paid; hence it is necessary that they all have it to have access to their salaries.
Speaking in an interview with Abena Opokua Ahwenee on Dadi FM, Carbonu stated that this decision is very unfair to government workers because they were not engaged in the making of it.
“They’ve not consulted anyone, even the people that will be affected with this policy have no idea about this and it’s not right”, he stressed.
According to him, there should not be Ghana card mandatories for anyone, especially for people who work very hard and deserve to be compensated.
“We need identification, yes, but we don’t have to give other people privileges for having it because all these people work for the government and they must be paid”, he said.
He added that he is not against the registration of the Ghana card; he is against the improper issuance of the card and the fact that there was no stakeholder’s engagement on the decision taken, hence the call for its withdrawal.
“I have my Ghana card; I’m not against it in any way. I just think that we must be involved in the making of such decisions in the country”
