A 19-year old boy identified as Awunimah Akalawe has drowned in the Amponsah River at Bibiani Zongo in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal of the Western North Region.
Residents of Bibiani Zongo wept uncontrollably when the 19- year-old SHS student drowned in the Amponsah River.
The Assembly member for Bibiani Zongo Electoral Area, speaking to Hamza Mohammed explained that, the deceased Awunimah Akalawe, is a second year student of Bibiani Senior High Technical School (BESEC).
According to report, the deceased went to play football with his colleagues and decided to go and swim in the river where the unfortunate incident happened.
He added that the Zongo community after receiving the information that the deceased has been drowned organized swimmers to rescue the deceased.
He said about 1730 hours; the swimmers find the lifeless body of Awunimah Akalawe.
The Police went to the scene and conveyed the body to the Bibiani government hospital moutuary for preservation and autopsy.
“There were no marks on the body, the police have begun investigations into the incident” he added.
