On Tuesday, August 8, 2023, deputy Lands and Natural Resources Minister George Mireku Duker embarked on a working visit to the Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO) to follow up on the government’s plan of modernizing VALCO towards the realization of building an integrated aluminium industry where the country will realize the full potentials of VALCO while raking in a lot of benefits through value addition strategies.
On behalf of the management and the board, the Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, presented an up-to-date status of VALCO, which carries the hope of seeing VALCO work again.
After touring the VALCO docks, Carbon Plant, Cell Lines, Cast house and Maintenance shops, coupled with the briefing received, the deputy minister was confident to indicate that VALCO is operating well and in good hands and calls on the investor community to partner with VALCO to deliver the necessary value.
He urged the management to work hard to attract strategic investors and avert the situation of exporting finished products with little value added, making the state lose much value.
He again urged the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), which currently holds the government’s stake in VALCO, to pull all strings to ensure that the President’s vision of developing an integrated Aluminium Industry becomes a reality.
He assured the management of VALCO of the Ministry’s unflinching support to ensure they succeed.
Hon George Mireku Duker was accompanied by the Advisor on Mines, Mr Benjamin Aryee, GIADEC CEO, Mr Michael Ansah and other officials of the Ministry.
