Ghana has suffered a major setback in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers after sharing the spoils against Ethiopia on Thursday afternoon.
The Black Stars were held to a 1-1 draw at the Orlando stadium in South Africa.
Captain Andre Ayew opened the scoring on the 22nd minute with a brilliant free-kick before the Walia Ibex restored parity in the 72nd minute.
In a game where the Black Stars started very well, the opponent stood strong and kept the visiting team at bay.
With constant pressure on Ethiopia, Ghana finally broke the deadlock late in the first half when Andre Ayew scored from a direct free kick to shoot his team into the lead.
Elated and in control of the game, the Black Stars only needed to defend the lead in the second half but failed that test.
Following the hard work of the home team, they scored in the 72nd minute to force the match to end in a 1-1 stalemate.
Courtesy of the draw, Ghana now needs to beat South Africa by a two-goal margin on Sunday to have any chance of progressing to the final stage of the World Cup qualifiers.
