Every 14th November is WORLD DIABETES DAY, a day set aside to create awareness about Diabetes Mellitus.
As part of activities to mark this year’s celebrations, the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) in partnership with CPC-Cape Coast embarked on a free screening exercise to enable staff ascertain their status and potential risk to Diabetes Mellitus.
The screening was preceded by a sensitization lecture with focus on the Risk factors, symptoms, complications and management of the disease.
In his lecture, Dr. Richard Annan Dadzie, a Clinical Pharmacist with the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital indicated that Diabetes if not detected and managed early may affect other vital organs of the body mainly the kidneys, heart and the eyes and may lead to potentially life threatening complications.
He stressed that knowing your risk and what to do is important to support prevention, early diagnosis and timely management.
The Ag. Deputy Director of the CPC and Chairperson of the Central Regional branch of the PSGH, Pharm. Abena Ekufua Esia-Donkoh advised staff to adopt and maintain healthy habits such as healthy diets and regular physical activity or exercises to help delay or prevent complications of Diabetes Mellitus.
