The second meeting of the Forest and Climate Leaders’ Partnership (FCLP), on the sidelines of the ongoing World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
The Meeting, which the Lands and Natural Resources minister, Samuel Abu Jianpor co-Chaired with the United States’ Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, Secretary John Kerry, was attended by member states of the FCLP, observer countries, the World Bank, as well as several private sector partners, including Citibank, HSBC, the Macquarie Group, Lombard Odier and the Sumitomo Mitsui Group.
Also in attendance was the United Kingdom’s Minister of State for Overseas Territories, Commonwealth, Energy, Climate and Environment, The Right Honourable Lord Zac Goldsmith of Richmond Park.
The meeting focused on the Forests and Land-Use Investment Packages (FLIPs), an initiative of the FCLP designed to provide countries with a suite of financial, technical and political support options to deliver on their national forests and land-use programmes for climate action.
“We are encouraged by the commitment of FCLP members and the private sector to work together on this new initiative to halt and reverse forest loss and land degradation by 2030, while delivering sustainable development and promoting an inclusive rural transformation” Abu Jinapor stated.
He added the fight against climate change is a collective fight, and working together, we can deliver on 1.5 degrees Celsius for people and planet.
