The Womens wing of Friends of Bawumia 2008 has urged young girls not to allow menstruation be a hindrance to their educational success.
Madam Barbara Makara-Maccugen, Deputy national women’s organiser in an interaction with pupils at Kukurantumi Methodist basic school in the Abuakwa north district advised them to take good care of their personal hygiene especially during their menstruation periods.
All young girls were provided with sanitary pads after the deputy women’s organiser spoke to them about exercising healthy menstruation.
She encouraged young girls to rather be bold during those periods so as not to be intimidated by challenges that comes with menstruation.
At Bosuso in the Fanteakwa South district, pupils from upper primary to JHS 3 were all given sanitary pads and were also educated on menstruation and how to maintain GH good health.
Madam Makara-Maccugen re-echoed the Foundation’s commitment to ensuring that pupils and for that matter young girls get the needed support in their quest to climb higher in their educational lather.
“Don’t allow the boys to ride over you because of menstruation, you need to be confident in whatever you can do even during that time of the month” she added.
During a durbar of community leaders, people and pupils at Nterso in the Fanteakwa North district, pupils were taken through intensive education by officials from the Education directorate, Ghana Health Service, World Vision Ghana and FoB’08 Foundation on menstruation and it’s related issues.
Both speakers encouraged the young girls not to see menstruation as a curse but rather a blessing as it usher them into complete womanhood.
Madam Barbara Makara-Maccugen at the event was hopeful her outfit in the coming years will seek for partnerships to be able to raise enough funds to provide sanitary pads for pupils periodically.
“We are Friends of Bawumia-08 so we are following the benevolent attitude of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who is known for his humanitarian gestures to the needy and the less privileged in society. Continue to pray for him so that he can ascend the throne as President next year since that will be a guarantee for us to come back and more to support you all the time” she stressed.
Pupils were taken through the safe use of sanitary pads and how to dispose them off after usage in order not to have any effect on others.
Pupils who were drawn from communities around the Nterso community were all provided with sanitary pads.
Female teachers and women who were at the venue also benefited from the donation.
The District Education Directorate was grateful to the FoB’08 Foundation for the support and urged other organizations to emulate them of their kind gestures.
Pupils acted drama and recited poems which coincides with the celebration.
Meanwhile, female pupils of the Begoro Salvation Army Rehabilitation centre were not left out as it was the final stop for the team.
She was, however, grateful to Hajia Fatima High, FoB’08 Foundation, National Women Organizer for her support.
