The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Eastern Regional Police Command in Ghana has apprehended 16 individuals suspected of drug peddling in the Boti area of the Yilo Krobo Municipality.
The arrest operation, conducted in the early hours of the day, was meticulously planned based on intelligence. It targeted the suspects’ base, which served as a hub for cultivating large acres of cannabis in a sophisticated greenhouse structure.
The suspects were found to be involved in every stage of the illegal drug production process, from cultivation and harvesting to processing and distribution through intermediaries.
Furthermore, the suspects operated out of a self-contained flat adjacent to the plantation, where they packaged the illicit substance in bags and sacks. Disturbingly, this operation included the involvement of three women in their twenties.
As of now, all 16 suspects, inclusive of the three women, are in custody at the regional police command located in Koforidua Galloway.
They are cooperating with the police’s ongoing investigation, which aims to unveil the full extent of their illicit activities.
The police suspect that this operation is likely to have backing from influential individuals, raising questions about potential sponsors of the suspects’ activities.
According to sources within the Eastern Regional Police Command, it is anticipated that the suspects will be presented in court on Thursday, October 26, where they will face charges related to drug trafficking and illegal drug production.
The authorities are committed to ensuring that those responsible for such activities are brought to justice and held accountable for their actions.
