The Nuer Royal Family Clan and the Paramountcy of Yilo Krobo have firmly dismissed claims that the Konor of Yilo Krobo has been destooled, describing recent actions by some divisional chiefs, sub-chiefs, and queen mothers as customarily invalid, procedurally defective, and legally ineffective.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, the Royal Family described rituals purportedly carried out by some divisional chiefs claiming to have destooled the Konor as null and void and with no effect.
“The Konor has NOT been destooled. The stool of Yilo Krobo is NOT vacant. The Konor remains the exalted Paramount Chief of Yilo Krobo,” .
The Spokesperson for the Family Nene Paddy Keteku Nuer Asamoah stated that no divisional or sub-chief has the power under custom to distool a Konor, declare a stool vacant, or appoint an acting president of a traditional council.
“What has been done constitutes a gross violation of customary law and a direct affront to the Paramount Stool,” the release said.
According to the royal family ,the hightened tension and agitations are being orchestrated by alleged political actors claiming that certain politicians including the Member of Parliament for the constituency Albert Nyarkotey are ne
behind the growing agitations.
“It has come to the attention of the Nuer Royal Family that certain external political actors are alleged to be actively influencing and encouraging the current agitation by some Divisional Chiefs against the Konor of Yilo Krobo
Specifically, we have received credible reports that the current Member of Parliament for the area, together with persons closely associated with him, have made statements indicating an intention to use political power to interfere with the stool of Yilo Krobo”
The Nuer Royal Family warned against the politicisation of traditional authority and called on President John Dramani Mahama to intervene to de-escalate tensions.
“When politics enters the palace by force, peace leaves the community,” the statement cautioned.
Responding to some allegations leveled against the Konor by some sub-chiefs ,the Royal Family accused the agitating chiefs of bypassing established traditional processes, noting that no formal grievances were presented to the Konor, the Royal Family, or through elder-led mediation as required under custom.
The statement read revealed that respected elders, including Brigadier Akpatsu, Air Commander Wayo, Mr. Desmond Afutu, and Mr. Sam Quarshie, attempted to mediate the dispute, but these efforts were allegedly rejected.
“This conduct demonstrates that the present actions are not genuinely about grievance, but are driven by ulterior intentions incompatible with tradition and peace,” the Family asserted.
Rituals, Kuntu, and Allegations Clarified
The Royal Family dismissed claims that the Konor failed to perform stool rituals, cursed divisional chiefs, interfered with divisional rites, or renounced the stool, describing them as false and malicious.
They clarified that the Paramount Kuntu remains intact, preserved, and under the sole authority of the Paramount Stool, and has not been destroyed or tampered with as alleged.
The Family also rejected claims that a Christian cannot hold the linguist staff, stressing that recognition by the Royal Family and Kingmakers—not religion—confers legitimacy.
The Royal Family concluded with a firm declaration that the Konor remains in office and urged all parties to return to due process in the interest of peace.
“The Royal Family will defend its inheritance. Tradition will be preserved. Peace must prevail. Enough is enough.”
