The member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo, Dr Albert Tetteh Nyakotey has visited two Senior High Schools in his constituency to familiarize himself with the situation on the ground.
The MP visited Apersua Community Day Secondary School and Klo Agogo Senior High School.
Apersua Senior High is one of John Mahama’s E-block schools which was completed but remained unused for over three (3) years.
According to the office of the MP, it took the intervention of Dr Albert Nyakotey to get the attention of the government to finally agree to open the School.
“At a point, it took the MP to bring the Minority Committee Members on Education to have a Press Conference in conjunction with the Chiefs of Apersua, expressing their displeasure with the non-commissioning of the school after several Parliamentary questions have been filed by the MP in the same regard”.
The Headmaster of the Apersua community day school, Mr Vincent Oduro was happy to receive the MP and his entourage and took the opportunity to brief the MP on some of the challenges the school is facing since its opening of the school.
He said with a student population of over Two Hundred, the school has a Staff size of Ten Teachers, One non-Teaching Staff and One Voluntary Teacher.
The School is faced amongst other challenges, such as lack of Electricity Connection, absence of Markerboards, an unavailable canteen and no accommodation for the Headmaster. Dr Albert Nyakotey promised to provide a befitting Accommodation for the Headmaster and tasked elders of the Apersua Community to begin a search for an interim accommodation in that regard.
The MP and his team proceeded to Klo Agogo Senior High School, where a new headmaster has taken over. He used the opportunity to Welcome Mr Teyebiteye Aguale, a native from the Klo Agogo enclave newly posted to the school. He also presented a list of problems facing the school among which is a lack of a proper place of convenience for Staff, a lack of dining tables and chairs, a need to complete the walling of the school, as well as the urgent need to rehabilitate some old structures in the school.
The MP promised to help deal with the immediate challenges of the school and pledged his availability to help the new leadership of the school to succeed.
