Ghanaian comedian Derrick Kwabena Bonney, often known as DKB, has accused Gifty Afenyi-Dadzie, National Prayer Director for Aglow International Ghana, of hypocrisy following her recent remarks about Ghana’s current state.
On Saturday, June 15, 2024, Aglow hosted its mid-year thanksgiving ceremony at the State House. Madam Afenyi-Dadzie underlined that despite Ghana’s numerous difficulties, God has been good to the country.
However, DKB contends that the claim is contradictory and that it is precisely these kinds of behaviors that give the impression that Ghanaian young have little interest in the church.
“It’s people like these that have made the youth lose interest in the church. During Mahama’s time, wasn’t God’s grace available? Rubbish!” he wrote in a post.
Madam Afenyi-Dadzie stated on Saturday that despite the nation’s struggles with the weather, water, power, and economy, God has kept it safe and secure by His mercies.
“We are faced with economic challenges, we are faced with ‘dumsor,’ and we acknowledge that we have water shortages, but because of God’s mercies daily, we are not consumed. Although the cost of living has skyrocketed, by God’s grace, we are still witnessing traditional marriages, wedding ceremonies, outdooring, and birthday parties.
“Let’s consider what is happening to other nations around us in terms of natural disasters, and you will agree with me that God has been more than magnanimous to Ghana,” she said.
Aglow International Ghana’s Thanksgiving ceremony is distinguished by a sequence of yearly prayer gatherings that draw primarily female attendees from throughout the country.
They prayed for the government apparatus, the country’s leaders, and for enlightening spiritual intervention.
Aglow has been accused throughout the last seven years of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration of being too lenient in its criticism of the government.
Although the group appeared to be more at ease with the current New Patriotic Party leadership, critics claim that they were more critical of the previous John Dramani Mahama administration.
