Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, the Regional Minister for Greater Accra, has attributed the NPP’s (New Patriotic Party) regional setback to the media.
He claimed that the media launched anti-NPP campaigns through their reporting, which hurt their electoral victories.
These comments were made by the former Tema East MP during a post-election analysis interview on Adom FM/TV.
“I acknowledge one or two things accounted for the defeat. Most of the media stations are in Accra so it becomes worrying when some outlets decide to criticise everything. Some media houses did not help us at all.
“Two days to election, Joy FM was reporting about galamsey amidst fierce criticisms. Indirectly, they were campaigning against the government,” he stated.
He did, however, add that the NPP respects Ghanaians’ will and will not abandon its break-the-8 program, promising to return stronger.
Prior to the recently concluded election, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) owned 20 of the 34 seats, while the NPP held 14.
With a target of 21, NPP Regional Chairman Divine Agorhom expressed confidence that the party will regain all lost seats.
However, the NPP experienced a blow once the voting ended, losing a large number of its seats.
Although the results of the 2024 election have not yet been formally announced by the Electoral Commission (EC), the NDC asserts that it has won 30 of the 32 seats.
During a news conference on Sunday, December 8, Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer, stated that the claim was based on an internal compilation of polling station results from throughout the region.
He clarified that NDC polling agents had painstakingly gathered and filed data, which the party considers evidence of its power in the area.
