A Circuit Court in Koforidua has granted bail to Vera Akosua Asare, a young woman accused of pouring acid on her boyfriend, Daniel Omane over suspicions of infidelity.
Omane, a 29-year-old mobile phone dealer, sustained life-threatening injuries and was initially treated at the Eastern Regional Hospital before being transferred to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
Vera Akosua Asare, who previously lived with her mother in a single room, moved to stay with Omane after giving birth to their baby girl, now two years old.
However, their relationship became strained due to frequent misunderstandings and allegations of infidelity.
The girlfriend reportedly chases ladies she suspect are flirting with her boyfriend to threaten them to stay away in a noisy and embarrassing conduct.
These tensions led Omane to end the relationship.
On the day of the attack, Omane was asleep in his room when Vera Asare allegedly sneaked in and poured acid on him.
His screams alerted co-tenants, who rushed to his aid. The suspect was apprehended and handed over to the police, while Omare was taken to the hospital.
The accused Vera Akosua Asare was initially remanded into police custody but was granted bail by the court to enable her to care for their child. She returns to court on March 25.
Meanwhile, the victim’s mother, Comfort Batsa, has expressed distress over the financial burden of Omare’s medical treatment.
The family has sold properties to cover the rising medical bills, yet the costs remain overwhelming.
Doctors at Korle Bu initially recommended that Omane undergo plastic surgery abroad due to the severity of his injuries, but the family could not afford the expenses.
As a result, specialists at Korle Bu have resorted to performing three grafting procedures to help restore his skin.
The family is appealing for support from the public to mobilize Ghc60, 000 for the surgery.
