The Speaker of Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has advised the newly sworn-in Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, to remain grounded, industrious, and devoted to the trust placed in her by her constituents as he believes she’s the hop of the people in her constituency
Following her swearing-in, the Speaker congratulated Aubynn and reminded her of the importance of public service and the high expectations her constituents have of her.
“I will take this opportunity to congratulate you and also urge you to be punctual, ever present in Parliament, be calm, listen more, learn from your colleagues, but please read everything, and not only the Constitution and the Standing Orders.
“You are now the hope of the people in the constituency. They are looking up to you to do something to improve their lives. It is a trust, and this I pray you don’t abuse,” he said.
“Four years is just a day,” the Speaker said, warning her not to let distractions influence her. They will evaluate you again based on your performance when you return to them. Therefore, please avoid being duped by others.
The Minority Caucus, however, protested the Speaker’s decision to deprive Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh a chance to speak prior to the event by walking out during the swearing-in ceremony.
After a contentious parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency, Aubynn took office. After the election Commission (EC) revoked the initial results from December 2024 because of multiple complaints about election irregularities and unauthenticated pink sheets, a rerun was conducted in 19 polling places.
The EC withheld the results and ordered a rerun, citing problems like unsigned result forms, disparities in vote totals, and procedural errors during the collation process.
Ewurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won the rerun on Friday, July 11 with 34,090 votes, barely defeating Akua Afriyie of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who received 33,881 votes.
