Actress Yvonne Nelson has called for a protest against the Akufo-Addo government over the unpredictable power supply, or “dumsor,” at the policy think tank IMANI Africa.
This comes after sporadic power disruptions recently.
There were massive power outages in Ghana in 2015, which greatly irritated the populace. Due to the unstable power supply, actress and producer Ms. Nelson organized a large-scale protest against the John Mahama regime.
The policy think tank IMANI Ghana was instrumental in making the demonstration a success. Numerous well-known Ghanaians participated in the 2015 vigil, which called attention to the effects of power outages on everyday life.
Residents of the Ashanti area also planned a dumsor vigil in Kumasi at night on April 17, 2024. Hundreds of demonstrators protested the unstable power supply and frequent, unexpected outages by marching against the issues surrounding it.
Energy specialists and the general public have criticized the administration for handling the crisis poorly.
In a Monday post on X, Ms. Nelson said she is waiting for IMANI to get in touch with her regarding the vigil, just as it did in 2015.
“Imani Ghana, can we organize another vigil? I’ve been waiting for you to reach out like you did years back. ( your team made our demo a success ) I’m reaching out myself. The NPP and its leadership @NAkufoAddo have taken Ghanaians for granted.DUMSORMUSTSTOP,” she said.
