Professor Osei Kwarteng, a historian and academic professor at the University of Cape Coast, has clarified that history is more than merely historical occurrences; rather, it is historical happenings that have social importance.
Speaking to Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem with Kwamina Sam Biney, Prof. Kwateng emphasized that, “Naming something after you It’s not just about contributing to something, but sometimes it’s because the event happened during your time,” he said.
“I have studied history, and when we say history, we are not referring to all pasts event but pasts events that have significance on society”. He explained
He gave an example with Kotoka International Airport, named after Kotoka because he died in front of it during a coup.
He concluded by saying that, significance is what makes a past event
