Several persons are feared dead after a fuel tanker exploded at Ntoaso on the main Accra–Nsawam highway, leaving many victims burnt beyond recognition.

The explosion, which occurred earlier today, reportedly engulfed five cars and five motorbikes in flames, causing extensive damage and panic among motorists and residents in the area.
Eyewitnesses say the tanker caught fire before a loud explosion ripped through the scene, trapping occupants in nearby vehicles.

Some victims were unable to escape the intense blaze.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service, the National Ambulance Service and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) are currently at the scene conducting rescue operations and managing the situation.

Several injured persons have been rushed to nearby health facilities, while authorities work to account for the number of casualties.
Traffic on the busy Accra–Nsawam stretch has been heavily affected, with motorists advised to use alternative routes as emergency teams continue their work.
The cause of the explosion is yet to be officially confirmed.
