An electrical fire outbreak has completely destroyed a five-bedroom private residence belonging to an employee of the Electricity Company of Ghana, Mr. Atta Sarpong, at Koforidua Atekyem, a suburb of the New Juaben South Municipality in Eastern region
Preliminary reports indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical fault from a service pole supplying power to the property, which was eventually engulfed by the inferno.
Eyewitnesses stated that they saw the power lines catching fire before hearing an explosion, after which the flames quickly spread to the house.
Residents immediately alerted the fire service, but although firefighters arrived with a tender to control the blaze, the property had already been extensively destroyed.
The victim’s wife, overwhelmed by the loss of their long-acquired properties and personal belongings, reportedly collapsed and was rushed to a nearby clinic, where she was later stabilized.
Some engineers from the Electricity Company of Ghana were seen at the scene disconnecting the allegedly faulty pole believed to have triggered the fire outbreak.
Concerned neighbours, relatives, and colleagues of the victim, including the regional director of ECG, were also present at the scene to sympathize with the family and offer support.
The Ghana National Fire Service, the police, and the Electricity Company of Ghana have commenced investigations into the exact cause of the unfortunate incident.
The incident has displaced the ECG worker and his family of five, including his children who perched with friends and family to temporal shelter.
