Guaranty Trust Holding Company has officially handed over a fully refurbished and modernised ICT laboratory to Sarkodee M/A Basic School in a move aimed at enhancing digital learning and improving access to technology for students and teachers in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region.
Speaking on behalf of the Managing Director, management, and staff of GTBank Ghana, the Divisional Head for Corporate Communication and Customer Experience, Agnes Owusu-Afram, described the initiative as part of the bank’s continued commitment to supporting education and community development.
According to her, since opening its Koforidua branch in April 2021, GTBank has consistently invested in impactful social intervention projects within the community. She noted that the refurbished ICT laboratory forms part of the bank’s broader efforts to promote education and digital literacy across the country.
Mrs Owusu-Afram emphasised that access to technology and ICT education has become indispensable in today’s rapidly evolving world, stressing that digital literacy is no longer optional but critical for academic excellence, innovation, career advancement, and participation in the global economy.
She further clarified that despite the group’s recent corporate rebranding to GTCO, the bank’s operations in Ghana remain unchanged as Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited under the regulation of the Bank of Ghana. According to her, the rebranding reflects the group’s unified global identity under the theme, “The Power of One.”
The newly commissioned facility is the 11th ICT laboratory established by the bank nationwide. The laboratory has been equipped with 51 desktop computers, four air conditioners, new desks, a modern projector, a laser printer, and 24-hour internet connectivity to create a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
GTBank encouraged students to take full advantage of the facility to build their technological skills and prepare for future careers in engineering, software development, science, medicine, entrepreneurship, and leadership. School authorities and teachers were also urged to ensure proper maintenance of the facility for future generations.
The Municipal Chief Executive for the New Juaben South Municipality, Ransford Boakye, commended GTBank for the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward preparing young people for the future and driving economic transformation through technology.
According to him, digital skills have become essential for students and young people in an increasingly technology-driven world. He stressed that equipping students with practical ICT knowledge is necessary to enable them to become productive and competitive in society and the modern workplace.
Also addressing the gathering, the Gyaasehene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Nana Twumasi Dakwa, praised GTCO for the gesture and called on other financial institutions to emulate the bank’s example.
He observed that despite the presence of larger financial institutions, few have undertaken significant development projects for the benefit of the public. He said GTCO had demonstrated leadership by investing in a modern ICT laboratory for the school and urged corporate institutions to support initiatives that positively impact communities.
GTBank reaffirmed its commitment to supporting communities through impactful educational initiatives and pledged to continue investing in projects that promote learning, digital transformation, and national development.
Bryt fm over the past year advocated for the renovation of the building which was ripped off during a heavy downpour that affected many buildings of the school, including the ICT lab.
