Nkurakan, Eastern Region – The Wildlife Division has officially launched the 2026 Closed Season Observation at Nkurakan in the Eastern Region under the theme, “Protect Wildlife, Preserve Our Future.”
Launching the programme, the Executive Director of the Wildlife Division, Dr. Joseph Boakye, Esq., said the initiative reflects Ghana’s commitment to protecting its wildlife and conserving the country’s rich natural heritage for present and future generations.
According to Dr. Boakye, wildlife conservation is a critical pillar of sustainable development. He explained that protecting wildlife and natural ecosystems contributes to environmental sustainability, supports tourism, safeguards biodiversity, and improves the livelihoods of communities that depend on natural resources.
He stated that the country’s vision is to build a future where conservation drives sustainable development and where future generations inherit the remarkable natural resources that define Ghana. He noted that achieving this goal requires the collective efforts of government institutions, traditional authorities, local communities, conservation partners, and the general public.
Dr. Boakye officially declared the 2026 Closed Season Observation open and urged Ghanaians to comply with all wildlife conservation regulations. He explained that the closed season provides an opportunity for wildlife species to breed and restore their populations, helping to maintain healthy ecosystems and ensuring the long-term survival of Ghana’s wildlife.
He further appealed to the public to support the Wildlife Division by reporting illegal hunting, poaching, and other activities that threaten the country’s wildlife resources. He stressed that protecting wildlife is a shared responsibility and called on everyone to contribute to preserving Ghana’s natural heritage for future generations.
