Barima Ettu Adomako III, the Ettukromhene, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene in alleged illegal mining activities taking place on his land, claiming that the situation has prevented residents from accessing their farms.
According to the chief, some soldiers are allegedly involved in the mining activities on the disputed land. He claimed that the individuals operating there had mentioned President Mahama’s elder brother, Alfred Mahama, as the person who sent them to undertake the activities.
Barima Ettu Adomako III expressed concern that the presence of security personnel on the land had created fear among residents, making it difficult for them to go about their farming activities.
He also disputed claims that the operators had consulted the traditional authorities before commencing work, insisting that no chief had been approached for permission.
The Ettukromhene further disclosed that the matter was already before the court and that an injunction had been issued. He questioned why the activities were allegedly continuing despite the ongoing legal proceedings.
He appealed to President Mahama to intervene and ensure that the rule of law is respected, stressing that no individual is above the law.
The chief urged the President to take steps to resolve the situation and restore peace to the community, adding that the land belongs to someone and that the rightful owners should be allowed to access and cultivate it without fear or intimidation.
He maintained that the situation was affecting the livelihoods of his people, who depend largely on farming for their survival, and called for urgent action to address their concerns.
