Vice President Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that President Akufo-Addo’s administration since 2017 has completed a total of 1,095 Classroom blocks out of 2,264 earmarked across the country.
According to him, the Government has completed 1,253 Education Infrastructure and 1,446 others are ongoing Nationwide.
Giving the breakdown during a Townhall meeting in Accra, Dr. Bawumia said 79 Dormitories have been completed and 225 other ongoing while 73 Staff accommodation completed and 38 others ongoing.
He said the government has completed some of the E-blocks started by the previous government and refuted claims of abandoning the projects.
According to him, only 29 were completed under the Mahama government, adding, “In the area of Senior High School we have completed 448 of these projects and I must add that if you look at the E-blocks that a lot of noise has been made about. By 2016 the previous government had constructed 29 E-blocks and we came in between 2017 and 2019 we have completed 27 so far so there is no truth that we have abandon projects.
The NDC government had on several occasions announced that more than 123 of the schools were at various stages of completion and released a list of the said schools in October 2016 following clamors for evidence of progress on the schools.
On 20th August 2019, President Akufo-Addo told the chiefs and people of Wechianu in the West District of the Upper West Region that the Mahama government did not pay for the majority of the E-Block schools it constructed.
Speaking to the chiefs during a courtesy call, President Akufo-Addo rubbished the claim of putting up the structures, saying: “In many, many cases, they were unable to peruse them because they had not made proper provisions for the schools.”
