Commercial Motorbike riders popularly known as Okada riders in Kasoa in the Central Region are calling on Political Parties to announce their policy Statements on operations of Okada to enable them to make an informed decision in the 2020 polls.
According to the Okada riders, so far John Dramani Mahama Flagbearer of the largest Opposition Party is the only one who has declared to legalize and regularize their Operations therefore are prepared to vote for him in December 7, 2020.
Deputy National Public Relations Officer Of The Okada Riders Association(ORAG) Adande Kojo told Bryt FM’s Central Regional Correspondent Eric Owusu Amponsah that, the Association is apolitical therefore only supports good policy interventions that will secure their operations which is a source of income for them and their families.
He said, Okada riders have over the years been treated as criminals by Police with constant harassment, arrest, and assault therefore promise to legalize and regularize their Operation is a sigh of relief.
Some of the Okada Riders’ alleged harassment by Police makes them uncomfortable.
They said Police have been chasing and sometimes firing warning shots at them causing fatal accidents which have led to injuries and death of some of their members citing the latest incident where two Okada riders are in a critical condition at Buduburam after the Police Patrol team fired a warning shot at them while transporting passengers causing an accident.
