A woman cried uncomfortably at the premises of the Suhum Circuit Court in the Eastern Region after her husband was jailed for 15 years for defiling their twelve (12) year old daughter for three consecutive years.
The woman, who reported the abominable act to Police in 2020 burst into tears regretting her action on the basis that she cannot take care of the children alone.
The convicted father, David Owusu, 40, is a farmer who lived together with his wife, the victim, and three other children at Anum Apapam in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region.
The facts of the case put before the court by the Prosecutor -Chief Inspector Owusu Sekyere, are that, on the immediate past Christmas day, the mother of the victim went to church with two other children at about 7:00am leaving the victim and her eight (8) year, old sibling, in the care of the convict in the house.
Upon her returned home, she noticed the living room has been locked which she forced opened only to find the husband and the victim naked on their matrimonial bed.
The victim told the mother that her father has been having sexual intercourse with her when she was nine (9) years but threatened her not to tell anyone.
The mother screamed for help which led to many residents trooped to the house to the arrest of the convict and was handed over to the Police.
Later, Police had a tip-off that the victim has been taken away to an unknown location.
The convict on January 5, 2021, led Police to Juaso near Osino in the Fanteakwa South District where the victim was taken to hide ostensibly to frustrate police investigation but was taken back to Anum Apapam where she demonstrated to the police in the presence of the convict how she was sexually abused on a fateful day.
The convict admitted the offense during caution statement and was charged and put before Suhum Circuit Court President by Her Honour Diana Adu Asarewho jailed him 15 years imprisonment in hard labor.
