A midwife posted to Motokrodua in Sekyere East District of the Ashanti of Ghana joined the locals to carry a pregnant woman in labour to a CHPS compound for safe delivery.
The woman in labour lives in a village where there is no access road. She could not also sit on a motorbike due to her condition therefore had to be carried on a wooden stretcher.
The midwife -Rosemary Delai Gavor helped the men in town to carry the woman in labour while monitoring her condition till they got to the facility to deliver her.
The CHPS compound has no electricity, therefore, the midwife has personally financed the installation of solar power.
The facility also lacks water and has no accommodation for staff.
Nonetheless, the midwife is resolute to help provide healthcare to the inhabitants.
She is however appealing to the general public to help the purchase a Polytank to enable store water.
She also needs a motorbike to facilitate her movement while appealing to government to extend electricity to the community and construct roads to the villages.
Ghana’s healthcare system is saddled with inequalities due to lack of basic social ameneties and logistics.
