The NPP after the 1992 election swung Abuakwa North Area into its stronghold and has consolidated its gains over the years, making the seat one of its safe areas in parliamentary elections.
The votes amassed by JB (RIP) and Prof. Amoakoh were a testament to the fact the people in the area believed in the ideals of Danquah, Busia, and Dombo tradition. The vote difference between the two parties has been enormous that it has never been in contention nor any hopes of the NDC ever coming close to the Parliamentary seat until the last election.
The NDC pulled a trick that will go down memory lane as one of their best performances in the constituency by losing the seat by just 2,102 votes compared to the 6,084 and 6,503 votes lost in the 2016 and 2012 elections respectively. One will applaud the NDC for putting up a sterling performance but a cursory look at the presidential figures will tell you clearly that the NPP outshined them in terms of election strategy. It is clear from the declared results that the President’s votes appreciated massively in the last two elections. So, one will ask why the abysmal performance of the party in the parliamentary election? Your guess is as good as mine.
The race for the position of the MCE is keen. The tactics that were used to eliminate Hon. Emmanuel Asare Gyeke (the current presiding member of the Assembly as well as the research officer of the party ) for Hon. Nana Ofosu Ampofo popularly known as Nana Oat was dastard and those behind it should bow their head in shame. It is an open secret that Nana Oat is the Candidate of the MP. I have no qualms with her decision but if the party does not know death they should look at sleep. In the last elections, the party (delegates) honoured her but it was clear in the general elections that she wasn’t the preferred choice of the people. I can categorically say, that Nana Oat is not the choice of the majority of the Assembly members and even the town he claims to hail from.
To break the 8, the last mistake the NPP in Abuakwa North should make is allowing the MP to impose (through intensive lobbying) Nana Oat on the people as MCE. The council of elders of the party should advise her to distance herself from the race for it is not advisable to fart when you have body odour. Her entrenched position against the two other candidates who research shows have appeal to the masses and Assembly members are enough to tell her and the party that the tactics which were employed to get her to lead the party if not revised will cause another disaffection for her person and the party in the 2024 General election.
Nana Oat has stabbed his Boss, Hon. Gyekye at his back. Hon. Gyekye introduced Nana Oat to the top administration of the Party and also made him a member of the NPP research team member in Abuakwa which Gyekye is the head. Luckily for Nana Oat, he got an appointment as E/R free SHS Coordinator. Gyekye did not get an appointment in the first term and he was looking forward to the MCE position, Nana is stepping down from his current position to battle with his boss for the MCE position which his camp has succeeded in making sure Hon. Gyekye is disqualified. Is this not greed?
The people of Akyem Osiem have rejected Nana Oat. They said Nana Oat is not from Osiem so he should stop presenting himself as Osiem Man.
You know who the people want, do the right thing. Congratulations on your appointment make us proud.
