Portuguese trainer Mariano Bareto will not continue as head coach of Asante Kotoko for the upcoming season.
The former Black Stars coach joined the Kumasi-based club before the start of the second round of the Ghana Premier League in March 2021 replacing Maxwell Konadu who was sacked in December 2020 following an unimpressive performance.
He guided the club to finish second on the league table at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
The 64-year-old played 22 matches in all competitions where he won 11, drew 6 times, and lost 5 times.
Speaking to Nhyira FM, Mariano Bareto confirmed his departure from the two-time Africa Champions.
According to him, it will be insulting him if he continues to work as head coach of the Porcupine Warriors in the same conditions of the club.
“It will be an insult on me if I continue as head coach of Asante Kotoko in the same conditions I have already complained about,” he said.
“There are other coaches out there who will be happy to work in these conditions and not me.”
