Four persons have been arrested by Police in Budumburam (Liberia Camp) for staging an unlawful demonstration ahead of a planned demolishing exercise on Thursday.
Three months ago, the Gomoa East District Assembly together with Gomoa Fetteh Chiefs served a demolishing and eviction notice to residents in the community over their intention to demolish a portion of the refugee’s camp for redevelopment.
However, occupants of the facility say authorities at the Assembly and government are not being fair to them after an announcement was made this afternoon that the entire community is going to be demolished on Thursday.
According to them, they had earlier been informed that the demolishing is set to take place from Zone 1 to 8 leaving those in 9 and 10 above but they have this afternoon been notified that their structures have also been included.
This triggered spontaneous Protests to register their displeasure.
Speaking to Bryt FM News Correspondent Eric Owusu Amponsah, they appealed to the city authorities to reconsider extending the grace period to enable them to secure accommodation elsewhere for their children, wives, and families.
