Hon. Solomon Darko Quarm, the District Chief Executive for the Gomoa East District Assembly, has insisted that the demolition of the Budumburam camp with over 141 acres of land will soon commence.
According to him, the camp is no more of use as it seizes to be a refugee camp for residents and Liberians as he also believes the camp has outgrown its purpose.
Some residents in the area have affirmed their decision not to vacate the place despite the assembly serving them with an eviction letter.
Hon. Darko Quarm again indicated that the UNHCR in 2010 provided settlement packages for Liberian Refugees who decided to settle into Ghanaian society and those who opted to go back home.
But, speaking to Bryt Fm News Correspondent Eric Owusu Amponsah, the DCE, Hon. Solomon Darko Quarm insisted that they have carried out enough sensitization for persons to vacate the camp and will not have mercy on anyone when the demolition commences.
“Government asked us to announce the demolition of the 141-acre land by 30th September, so if someone has said something else, then I know nothing about it. If the residents are adamant about leaving, then it’s their cup of tea. When the time is due and the people in charge of the demolition comes, any conversation they will have is between the demolishers and the residents and I won’t sack anyone from the land if they fail to leave”, he stated.
Meanwhile, Some Ghanaian residents who claim to have nowhere to go still appealing to authorities to consider taking a second look into the situation in the country now and extend the eviction days for them since living in the Budumburam Camp are unbearable.
