The Volta Regional Command of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), as part of the 2026 World Drugs Day Commemoration, organised a one-day seminar for Senior High/Technical and Vocational Schools Guidance and Counselling Coordinators on 23rd June 2026.
The seminar aimed at strengthening the capacity of school counsellors in addressing issues of drug abuse among students, promote preventive education, and foster collaboration between NACOC, the Ghana Education Service, and other stakeholders.
The Regional Commander of NACOC SNCO Worlanyo K. Fianu emphasized the growing challenge of drug abuse among the youth and the critical role of counsellors in early detection and intervention.
He highlighted NACOC’s commitment to preventive education, community sensitization, and law enforcement.
He appealed to participants to serve as “frontline defenders” in schools, guiding students away from harmful substances and towards productive futures.
The Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Marian Jemima Akua Adzroe commended NACOC for its proactiveness in dealing with the drug abuse menace among the youth in the region.
She called on all stakeholders and participants to apply the knowledge acquired to enable impact positively and immensely on their students.
