The Ghana Bachelors Association (GBA) says it is troubled over increasing cases of spousal killings in the country.
According to the Association on Sunday, October 3, 2021, they woke up to the gruesome murder of Daniel Lartey, 35, by his 27-year-old wife, Rachael Tetteh at My God Village at Tei Glover, a farming Community near Akyem Bosuso in Fanteakwa South District in Eastern Region.
A statement issued by National President Cecil Asiamah stated that “We have observed with a fear, sharp rise in incidents of couples killing themselves in the country. The situation, if not curbed, will continue to discourage members of GBA from marrying”.
The statement further said, “Many of our members across the country have been gripped with gynophobia as a result”.
The unmarried men group is therefore making proposals that “marriage counselors review their counseling strategies.
We also urge the Church to pay greater attention to marriage and family life to build glorious marriages to reflect the purpose for which God establishes marriage as the foremost Institution he blessed “.
The Association also suggested to tertiary Institutions to dedicate credit hours for family’s life and relationship issues to help prepare students for marriages.
The statement further said “We also want to urge DOVVSU under the Ghana Police Service to roll out measures to prevent such heinous crimes in marriages”
They reminded Ghanaians that, “according to the 2021 population and housing census, there are over 400,000 more women in Ghana than men, therefore, if our concerns are not addressed marriage may be endangered and the number of singleness will continue to grow”
