The Asamankese Circuit Court has convicted a 66-year-old man, Joseph Agbeteye to 12 months imprisonment in hard labor for possessing narcotics drugs Contrary to section 31(1) of the narcotic control Commission acts 2020(Act 1019).
Joseph Agbeteye pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his plea.
According to prosecuting Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, C. T. Apronti, the complainants are police officers from the National highways patrol unit, Accra and the accused person is a farmer at Anoff, near Nsawam.
He said on 10/10/2021, the complainants were on patrol duty on the Nsawam-Adeiso road and decided to stop some vehicles for search.
The accused person, who was in one of the vehicles was found with one slab of plant material suspected to be a narcotic drug, also known as Indian hemp so he was arrested and handed over to the police.
After investigation, the accused person was charged with an offense and arraigned before court for prosecution.
