The Executive Secretary for National Identification Authority (NIA), Prof. Kenneth Agyeman Attafuah has stated that all plans are set to begin the Eastern Regional mass registration for Ghana card from 4th March 2020 to 27th March 2020.
Professor Attafuah made this statement when he called on the Regional Coordinating Council and engaged the Municipal District Chief Executives in a meeting in Koforidua.
As major stakeholders in the Region, he appealed to the RCC and the MDCEs to provide all the necessary assistance to ensure that the programme runs smoothly in the Region. What is expected from you as the region is to educate the public to open their doors to offer accommodation to the employees of NIA, provide them with the needed security and creates awareness so that everybody who qualifies to register will come out to get registered, he appealed?
According to Prof. Attafuah, so far the authority has registered nine million people and about 85% of these people have received their Ghana card.
Speaking on behalf of the Eastern Regional Minister, the Hon. Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Samuel Nuertey Ayertey assured that the region is more prepared for the exercise and will provide the best environment for the staff and the equipment and consequently ensure that the entire programme succeeds.
As the last region to undertake this exercise and the home region of the President, Nana Akufo-Addo who has exhibited a strong commitment to this programme we need to do all that it takes to be ranked as the best region, he added.
The dean of MDCEs, the Chief Executive Officer for Akyease, Hon. Richmond Amponsah on behalf of MDCEs also assured that they will see to the successful implementation of the program. He, however, appealed to the NIA to also advise their employees to comport themselves in their respective operational districts.
