The Head of the Economic Empowerment Unit at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Mr. Kwame Karikari has said that the GNPC Foundation will enhance the employability of young artisans and empower them to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.
To him, the GNPC Foundation’s contributing to support and build the capacity of Ghana’s youth to ensure as many of them become economically independent to support themselves, their families, communities and Ghana at large.
The GNPC Foundation in with partnership with the ASEDA Foundation has supported three hundred and twenty-five (325) Artisans in the Eastern Region.
Mr Karikari explained that the two foundation is sponsoring the training to skill artisans with the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) certification.
Speaking in an interview with Nhyiraba Nartey Solomon, Mr Karikari affirmed that they have undergone apprenticeship in various vocational skills such as plumbing, fashion design, carpentry, auto-mechanics, general electrical, hairdressing, interior designing & decoration, and aluminum fabrication.
Mr Karikari announced that the beneficiary Artisans will, from today Tuesday 15th March to Friday 18th March, sit for their NVTI examination.
He said that the beneficiaries will further be provided with soft skills training in standards of business and entrepreneurship.
‘‘The Business Advisory Centre (BAC) of the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI), will take them through course models such as Book-keeping, Marketing/ Sales, Branding, Customer Relations, Attitude to Work, Safety at Work and Entrepreneurship,’’ he added.
‘‘The artisans will later undergo a graduation ceremony where each would be handed a set of tools relevant to their skills to help set them up for their entrepreneurial journeys,’’ said Mr Karikari.
