Former Ghana midfielder Laryea Kingston wants the Ghana Football Association to try all possible means to convince diaspora players to play for the Black Stars at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Ghana is returning to the Mundial after overcoming Nigeria in the play-off to book a ticket for Qatar this November.
Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi, Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey, Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah, and Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu amongst others have been targeted for the Mundial.
Athletic Bilbao brothers Nico Williams and Inaki Williams as well as Dortmund youngster Ansgar Knauff are also on Ghana’s list ahead of the biggest soccer Mundial.
In an interview with Kweku Sarpong Sarkodie of Bryt FM in Koforidua, the former midfielder noted the global tournament will be different from the qualifiers and thus, established players like Mohammed Salisu, Hudson Odoi, and others ought to be part of the squad.
According to him, their inclusion will play a major role for the Black Stars at the biggest soccer Mundial later this year.
“For me, those players are doing very well, so to me, if we can convince them to play for Ghana for us to get a formidable squad for the World Cup, I will be happy”
“If we can convince Kevin-Prince Boateng to play for Ghana, then we must try all means to convince Mohammed Salisu, Hudson Odoi, and other players to join us for the World Cup because they are doing extremely well with their clubs”
“Salisu and Odoi are playing for better clubs in Europe, these players are doing well for Southampton and Chelsea so if we can convince them to play for Ghana, I think it will play a major role to help us at the World Cup”
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group H of the World Cup along with European giants Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea.
Ghana is making its 4th appearance at the World Cup after participating in the 2006, 2010, and 2014 editions.
They will open their account against Portugal on November 24 before taking on South Korea in the second group game on November 28 and Uruguay in the last round four days later.
