The Asamankese Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams has sentenced two men to 40 years imprisonment in hard labor over the robbery.
The accused persons, Desmond Okyere, a 20-year-old cobbler, and Dela Adu Frank, a 26-year-old driver were charged with conspiracy, contrary to section 23(1) and section 149 of criminal offenses Act 1960(29), and both were convicted for 15 years each.
The court also charged them with robbery; contrary to section 149 of the criminal offenses Act 1960(29) and they were sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in hard labor, both sentences to run concurrently.
According to Inspector Samuel Owusu, Prosecuting Officer, the complainant is a driver in Asamankese and the accused persons also live in the same town.
He said on 1st April 2022 at about 7:30pm, the complainant was in charge of a Taxicab with Registration number GR 6261-21 and at Bungalow Junction in Asamankese, the accused persons were holding a black Schoolbag and black polythene bag and engaged the Service of the complainant to take them to one of the villages at Bungalow area and on the road, they attacked the complainant with an object which wounded two of his right figures.
Sensing danger, the complainant run away and shouted for support but the accused persons managed to drive the taxi the complainant away.
The complainant rushed to the Asamankese Police station for an Official report and the Police patrol team chased the accused persons and arrested them running away with the taxi.
Later, the accused persons were charged and sent to court for prosecution.
