Despite President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to complete and commission all hospitals under the Agenda 111 project before handing over power to another government in 2025, it seems it would not be a reality.
The Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu last week indicated Ghanaians should not be over-ambitious about completing all the hospitals by the earlier timeline as there are challenges that need to be addressed.
The minister mentioned issues of land acquisition, requests for fat compensations, and misunderstandings on locations among many others as the challenges.
Mr Agyemang Manu also revealed that most of the building plans are also been changed for various good reasons.
Commenting on the issue, Deputy Youth Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Fred Agbana has emphasised that President Akufo-Addo led government has woefully failed in the health sector since its assumption into power in 2016.
He accused the government of abandoning many health projects initiated by the Mahama-led NDC government which could have been rather completed to serve the same intended purpose.
Social media users have also taken a swipe at the Health Minister for his comments as it undermines the powers of the President who is the facilitator of the project.
“How can a minister turn down the pledge of a whole President. This is bad, does it mean the President lied to us or what? This minister is something” some social media users shared their views.
