The Nigeria High Commission in Ghana has sent a delegation to Koforidua over a report of young Nigerian girls trafficked to engage in exploitative commercial sex activity.
The delegation met the Eastern Regional Police Command and the leadership of the Nigeria Association in the region on the matter.
The team also met the Good Samaritan, Ibrahim Amevor, who rescued one of the sex trafficking victims who was impregnated, infected with HIV, and thrown out of the brothel.
The victim who is suffering from psychosis was delivered on April 30, 2022.
The Nigeria High Commission has initiated processes to facilitate the repatriation of her and other victims.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive who doubles as the Chairman of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has led a team of security operatives and the Assembly for the unannounced operation on brothel facilities in Koforidua.
The combined Security forces included the Police, Military, Immigration, Fire Service, NIB, and the Assembly raided and counterstrike Little Ben base, Bula Pub, Rumors at Ada, Charsay Pub, and Kofcity pub consecutively
This exercise was carried out to ascertain first-hand information about the developing commercial sex activities in the municipality which became much-talked by the media and some town dwellers in just recent days.
The Operators (promoters) of these brothels were arrested and tasked to submit their operation permits and all other documents which support their business to face MUSEC today for a critical decision to be taken.
In the event of the operation, luck eluded operators of Rumors as the team met them on the spot working on large quantities of substance suspected to be Indian helm. The culprits were immediately surrounded and apprehended by the Security forces and sent to the Central Police Station for further investigation.
MUSEC is appealing to the public to volunteer timely information about the operation of brothels in their localities for swift action.
The action of the security follows media investigation which uncovered young female Nigerians including minors are being trafficked to Koforidua, Eastern Regional capital -Ghana for sexual exploitation through the conspiracy of some Ghanaians and Nigerians under the pretext of securing decent and well-paying jobs for them in Ghana however forced into prostitution upon arrival.
The Bula Spot and Little Ben area are two major notorious brothels being used by the traffickers to house their victims in Koforidua.
