The Newly enstooled Omanhene for New Juaben Traditional Area Nana Kwaku Boateng III has set the tone for development with a maiden massive clean-up exercise held Saturday, July 9, 2022, ahead of his first celebration of Akwasidae on Sunday.
The Cleanup exercise held at the Central business city of the New Juaben, particularly around Prince Boateng Roundabout saw the participation of Eastern regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong, Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, the MCE Isaac Appaw Gyasi, Bismark Tawiah Boateng, former Eastern Regional chairman of NDC, some constituency executives from NPP, Zoomlion Ltd, NADMO, Police and host of others.
Tons of garbage and silts which cause flooding were removed from the chocked gutters.
The New Juaben Omanhene Nana Kwaku Boateng III said the exercise was to mitigate flooding close to the palace due to the choked gutters.
He charged the subjects to be conscious of their environmental stewardship and responsibility to keep the traditional area clean.
“This clean-up exercise is to mitigate flooding in this place because it leads to my palace and anytime it rains this area gets flooded which makes it difficult for people to come to my palace.
“Sunday is my first Akwasidae celebration which I want all my subjects to come to me to think about the development for New Juaben. This clean-up exercise will continue in the entire traditional area to improve sanitation. I will urge my subjects to unite and understand a common purpose so that we collectively keep the environment clean by watching each other”.
The Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong said the Regional coordinating council will sustain partnership with the traditional councils to improve sanitation and hygiene.
He said New Juaben being the regional capital has therefore set an exemplary standard.
“New Juaben in the capital of our Region So we have to make sure that New Juaben stands firm so it becomes standard for measurement once it becomes standard for measurement we can only succeed by ensuring that New Juaben is doing well. New Juaben is counted as one of the prime cities of the republic and so for us, we will do everything within our power to encourage New Juaben to ensure that the city is clean, the people are also law-abiding hence the clarion call by our newly installed Daasebre Nana Kwaku Boateng III is commendable”
The MCE Ike Appaw Gyasi said the assembly will soon start prosecution of sanitation offenders in the municipality to set a deterrent.
