Finance minister, Ken Ofori- Atta, has disclosed that the government would not be asking for more money during the 2022 mid-year budget.
Despite the government’s revenue handles performing poorly, he claimed, this is the case.
On Monday, July 25, Mr Ofori-Atta delivered the mid-year budget review to parliament and declared,” We have pledged to stay within the appropriation for 2022.
The government is launching a new domestic program to support the GhanaCARES program, he added, as part of its efforts to alleviate the economic problems of Ghanaians.
A vehicle for concentrating private sector investment into economically productive areas is provided by the GhanaCARES “Obaatanpa” program.
The Finance Minister described the difficulties facing Ghanaians as a result of Covid and the effects of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
“Towards 2022 Russia invaded Ukraine, a situation that worsened the already weakened global supply chain exacerbated by high conditions.
“These have had a debilitating toll on the cost and standard of living of our people. Mr Speaker, food prices are rising, fuel and transport fares are up, the cost of borrowing for businesses and for households has increased, the cedi has depreciated and the economic outlook has dipped significantly.” He stated.
