The Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development (MLGRD), who doubles as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Okere Constituency, has stated that government is committed for decentralization action plan to ensure the effective and efficient management of growing cities to boost economic activities and improve living conditions in the country.
According to the Minister, the government remains focused to ensure good governance and balanced development of metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies.
The Minister indicated that Ghana’s Secondary Cities Support Program Project (GSCSP) objective is to improve urban management and basic urban services in participating municipal assemblies (MAs).
He said that over 582 projects under GSCSP are ongoing in the country.
Briefing the media after a tour to selected Municipalities under the GSCSP in the Eastern region, Hon. Daniel Botwe disclosed that the projects was funded by the World bank.
He expressed his satisfaction on progress of the ongoing projects in the region adding that it will be completed soon.
Hon. Daniel Botwe called on Ghanaians and traditional leaders to collaborate and engage contractors on the ongoing projects in the municipalities.
Hon. Daniel Botwe visited Jackson Park rehabilitation project in the New Juaben South Municipality, business center at the Municipal Assembly, 188 lockable stores with offices at the Agormanya market, construction of culvert at Manaam on the Odumase to Kpong road, construction of the Atua Hospital road through Mount Mary College of Education in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, 44 capacity of hostel facility with halls and offices, and a large shopping mall at Abuakwa South Municipality.
He toured Lower Manya Krobo, New Juaben South and Abuakwa South Municipalities on the first day expecting to extend the visitation to Upper West Akyem and Birim Central on Friday.
Hon. Daniel Botwe added that Lower Manya Krobo, Upper West Akyem, Abuakwa South, Upper West Akyem, Birim Central and New Juaben South are the municipalities benefiting from GSCSP in the Eastern region.
He also paid a courtesy visit to the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Manya Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Sakitey II in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng in the New Juaben South Municipality and the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin.
