Asuogyaman constituency in the Eastern Region is poised to be a focal point in the upcoming parliamentary elections, with the NPP’s Pius Enam Hadzide, CEO of the National Youth Authority, challenging incumbent NDC Member of Parliament Thomas Ampem Nyarko, who is seeking a third consecutive term.
Campaign activities have kicked off early in Asuogyaman, with both candidates employing various strategies and messages to engage with voters.
However, Pius Enam Hadzide whose first attempt to go to Parliament at Ketu North failed, is already facing criticism for allegedly resorting to divisive tribal tactics targeting Ewe communities to undermine Thomas Ampem Nyarko’s candidacy.
In a recent event at Abume community, Thomas Ampem Nyarko was joined by several Members of Parliament and NDC executives to cut sod for a public toilet facility to end open defecation, and supported a community-initiated clinic project with cash.
The MP Hon. Emmanuel Bedzrah, Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, Hon. Gabby Hottordzi, Hon. Geoffrey Kini, Hon. Charles Agbeve, Hon. and Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa unanimously urged the electorate to reject Pius Enam Hadzide and retain Thomas Ampem Nyarko whom they described as hardworking and respectful therefore marked for appointment in next Mahama government.
Nii Lante Vanderpuje, Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, went further to warn that Hadzide could face legal consequences, hinting at his alleged involvement in the Australian visa scandal during the Commonwealth game in 2018.
Vanderpuje suggested that Pius Enam Hadzide might become the first former appointee to be jailed if the NDC regains power in 2025.
The MP Thomas Ampem Nyarko, accused Pius Enam Hadzide of engaging in tribal politicspolitics among Ewe Communities.
The event saw five youth including a physically challenged from the Abume fishing community enrolled into “Thomas Ampem Nyarko Skills Development and Youth Empowerment Programme” to learn driving and dressmaking.
Asuogyaman constituents are gearing up for a closely watched election, with both candidates vying to win over voters with their respective visions and promises.
Some constituents including a patient detained but medical bills paid by the MP after surgery thanked him for his intervention.
