Roads and Highways minister Francis Asenso Boakye inspected the progress of construction on Four (4) new major bypasses along the main Accra-Kumasi Highway, the busiest road in the country.
The bypasses are located in the traffic-congested areas of Osino, Anyinam, and Enyiresi in the Eastern region, and Konongo in the Ashanti region.
The minister was happy to witness that construction is progressing steadily.
The rationale is to decongest and reduce the travel time on the Accra-Kumasi Highway by creating dual carriage bypasses away from the major towns.
This is part of the Akufo-Addo administration’s plan to dualize the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
As many would recall, similar issues existed at Nsawam, Kyebi, and Nkawkaw on the same highway.
However, when bypasses were created in these three areas during the reconstruction of the Accra-Kumasi N6 highway under President John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration, the problem was effectively resolved.
Meanwhile, the government will continue to repair the bad sections of the existing Accra-Kumasi Highway to further reduce traffic congestion, improve road quality, prevent accidents and bring relief to our people.
