There is tension at Obuoho -Fante community in Ayensuano District in Eastern Region following the burning of four excavators at a small scale mining site by a team alleged to be officials of Forestry Commission of Ghana.
The Rapid Response Team of the Forestry Commission stormed the mining site early Thursday to set machines ablaze accusing the miner of trespassing into forest zone.
The incident sparked agitation by residents most of whom were miners, sensing danger the forestry personnel fled from the community.
Owner of the mining site Abubakar Adams claimed he has the necessary documentation to mine but could not immediately produce same for verification.
He also debunk accusation of trespassing into forest zone and river buffer.
He wants investigation conducted into the conduct of the forestry personnel.
Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey led a team of Police personnel to the community and scene of the incident.
She denied sanctioning the burning of the excavators and assured of investigation into the incident therefore called for calm.
The Minister however advised miners in the area to follow strictly the mining regulations more specifically desist from mining close to river bodies and trespassing forest zones.
