Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia shared insightful moments with African Students of University of Cambridge during their 2025 African Business Conference. He was thrilled at the worth of knowledge and experience shared by the students on the pathways to Africa’s economic emancipation.
He challenged the African students to take up the mantle of projecting the continent beyond borders and become the agents of change and progress the continent desires.
Dr Bawumia again urged the students to fully embrace a can-do spirit and attitude, aiming at using the current digital revolution to build systems that are transformative and progressive for the African continent.
“Africa does not lack innovation. We lack systems that scale it. We do not lack ideas, we lack ecosystems that reward and retain them. We do not lack ambition. We lack access to capital, infrastructure, and trust.
But the tide is turning. Let us build a future where a tech start-up in Nairobi (Kenya) can serve a client in São Paulo. Where a shea butter cooperative in Tamale (Ghana) sells directly to buyers in Tokyo using blockchain traceability. Where Africa’s innovations are not celebrated as exceptions – but expected as norms. Africa’s digital future is not pre-determined. We must forge it, deliberately, boldly, together, and now”.
