Ghana International, Awudu Issaka has named Stephen Appiah as the best player to put on the armband for the senior national team.
Stephen Appiah ‘Tornado’ captained the Black Stars between 2005 and 2010.
Awudu, a member of the 1995 U-17 world championship-winning team in an interview with Kwaku Sarpong Sarkodie of Bryt FM in Koforidua pointed the former Juventus midfielder as the best skipper to lead the Black Stars, saying there were unity and peace during his tenure.
According to him, some great footballers led the national team like Abedi Pele, CK Akonnor, Asamoah Gyan, and others but Awudu is of the view that Appiah’s ability to qualify Ghana to its first-ever world cup in 2006 makes him the best captain of all time.
“A captain must have a record and I think Appiah did that for the country. If you are a captain and you are unable to go to able world cup it does not speak well of you”
“When you go to the world cup, your level increases but if you don’t go to world cup you can’t talk much as a player. So I think Stephen Appiah deserves to be the country’s best-ever captain”
